Registration for March 2018 Spy Rock, Crabtree Falls & Fish Hatchery

When: March 17-18, 2018
Where: Crabtree Falls Campground, Tyro, VA – for New Scout Patrols (NSP).  Appalachian Trail near Spy Rock – older patrols
Arrive: St. Francis Parking Lot at 6:30 am, Saturday, March 17 (Quartermasters – 6:00am)
Return: Mid-to-late afternoon on Sunday, March 18 to the Great Falls Library

Troop 55 continues its backpacking ventures with a trip to a portion of the Appalachian Trail, Crab Tree Falls, Spy Rock and the Fish Hatchery.  On this trip, older scouts will hike approx. 9 miles over two days in the George Washington National Forest taking in breathtaking views at the top of Crabtree Falls and Spy Rock.  NSP will hike to and from the tops of Crabtree Falls on Saturday and Spy Rock on Sunday along with taking a tour of the Montebello Virginia State Fish Hatchery.  The NSP will car-camp at the Crabtree Falls Campground in Tyro, VA. New Scouts should bring a daypack for the short hikes on Saturday and Sunday.

Scouts should either eat breakfast at home or bring a meal for the car on Saturday morning.  Scouts are responsible for their own lunch on the trail Saturday. Foods such as dried fruit, granola bars, beef jerky, trail mix and other lightweight snacks are recommended.  Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast are planned and prepared by patrols.  Scouts should bring cash for lunch on the return trip Sunday.

Each hiker should bring two 32 oz. Nalgene bottles for water.  Scouts should remember the potential need for layered clothing when they pack.  Synthetic clothing is preferred.  Bring rain gear (no ponchos please) and a warm sleeping bag.  It could be cold in the evening. Pack for changeable weather, and be ready for a great adventure in the woods.

There is a $35 fee for each scout and parent attending (includes $20 transportation fee). THE TRANSPORTATION FEE IS WAIVED FOR BOTH SCOUT AND PARENT IF THE PARENT IS DRIVING.

Early payment price $35 (NON DRIVER), $15 (DRIVER), if registration & payment are received by Wednesday, March 14, 2018.   After March 14, the cost is $45 (non-driver), $25 (if driving).
