Registration for Billy Goat Hike March 12-13, 2016

Leave: St. Francis Parking Lot at 7:00 am, Saturday, March 12th (Quartermasters – 6:30)
Return: St. Francis early-afternoon on Sunday, March 13th.

Say goodbye to SNOW.  This March, Troop 55 scouts will enjoy a backpacking day hike on the Billy Goat Trail scrambling over steep cliffs, climbing on angled rocks and boulders and enjoying beautiful views of the Potomac River.  The return of the circuit hike is along the C&O Canal Towpath followed by overnight camping at the Marsden Tract Campground.  There are various hikes depending on level of expertise for new and seasoned scouts, decided upon ahead of time. 

The Scouts will need to have breakfast before they leave home in the morning and pack a snack for the hike.  Each Scout needs to bring a daypack/backpack to carry all gear from the car to the campground (less than a mile), two Nalgene water bottles and a snack for the trail hike.  As always, they need to be prepared for wet, cold, and windy weather on the trail and in camp. Raingear, non-cotton clothing layers, extra socks, hats, gloves, and hiking boots are required. Scouts will plan and prepare Saturday’s trail lunch, dinner and Sunday’s breakfast in camp as a patrol.  During these potentially cold trips, always err on the side of caution and PACK EXTRA CLOTHES & WARM SLEEPING GEAR.

There is a $20 fee for each scout and parent attending (includes $5 transportation, meals & camping). THE TRANSPORTATION FEE IS WAIVED FOR BOTH SCOUT AND PARENT IF THE PARENT IS DRIVING.

Early payment price $20 (NON DRIVER), $15 (DRIVER), if registration & payment are received by Wednesday, MARCH 2, 2016. $10 Late fee after March 2nd.
