Arrive at the Great Falls Library parking lot at morning 6:30AM on Sunday, October 23.
Return to Great Falls Library by early morning (around 9am) on Monday, October 24th (School holiday on most school on Monday).

Because the hot demand of group camp site for the weekend of Oct 22 -24 due to the beautiful Fall colors of Blue Ridge mountain Mountain , we have to move the day hike and camping to Sunday Oct 23rd to secure a big group camp site.

The Signal Knob hike in the George Washington National Forest has spectacular views of Strausburg VA. in the Shenandoah Valley, as well as Buzzard Rock in Fort Valley to the east. Signal Knob, at 2,106ft, gets its name as both Confederate and Union troops used it as a lookout during the Civil War. The Confederate Signal Corps controlled the outlook from 1862 until August 14, 1864, when Union troops defeated the 61st Georgia Volunteer Infantry and took control of the peak. Scouts will hike on the Sunday morning and afternoon, eat lunch on the trail, and cook dinner and camp out on Sunday night.

Scouts will hike  in patrols. Scouts will camp near the trail head at the ELIZABETH FURNACE GROUP CAMP A (https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233176), George Washington & Jefferson National Forest, 15618 Fort Valley Rd, Fort Valley, VA 22652. Scouts must be prepared for cold nights when they camp. This means a change into warm dry clothes (no cotton) for sleeping, extra layers (no cotton) to add on as we climb in elevation, water shoes, walking stick (if you have one), and extra pairs of dry socks (no cotton) if they get wet on the crossings. You should have a minimum of two,  1-liter Nalgene bottles filled with water when we meet at the Great Falls Library. As always, the scouts must bring rain gear for both the upper and lower body.

Scouts must arrive at Great Falls Library at 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning after having breakfast. They must bring a personal trail lunch for the hike on Sunday. Patrols will prepare Sunday dinner. Because adult leaders need to get back for Monday morning work, no Monday breakfast is provided (scouts will eat at home).

There is a $15 fee for each scout and adult attending. The Transportation fee ($20) is waived for both scout and parent if the parent is driving for troop .

Registration and payment is due by Saturday, Oct 22nd.

No registration after Saturday Oct 22nd 2022
