October 2018 Outing – Billy Goat Hike

When:  October 19-20, 2018
Where: Billy Goat Trail – Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park
Time: Arrive at the St. Francis parking lot at 6:00 PM on Friday evening, October 19th
Finished at St. Francis by 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 20th

Troop 55 scouts will enjoy a daypack hike on the Billy Goat Trail scrambling over steep cliffs, climbing on angled rocks and boulders and enjoying beautiful views of the Potomac River.  The return of the circuit hike is along the C&O Canal Towpath.  There are various hikes depending on level of expertise for new and seasoned scouts, decided upon ahead of time. 

The scouts and adult leaders will go hike on the Saturday morning after breakfast, then return to church to cook lunch. After lunch, the scouts can help out with a service project in the backyard of the church to build the fire pit, or participate in Jamboree On the Air (JOTA) at the church backyard.

Each Scout needs to bring a daypack, two Nalgene water bottles and a snack for the trail hike. As always, they need to be prepared for wet, cold, and windy weather on the trail and in camp. Raingear, non-cotton clothing layers, extra socks, hats, gloves, and hiking boots are highly recommended. Scouts will plan and prepare Friday’s dinner, Saturday’s breakfast and lunch at St. Francis as a patrol. During these potentially cold trips, always err on the side of caution and PACK EXTRA CLOTHES & WARM SLEEPING GEAR.

There is a $32 fee for each scout and parent attending (which includes a $20 transportation fee). THE TRANSPORTATION FEE IS WAIVED FOR BOTH SCOUT AND PARENT IF THE PARENT IS DRIVING. There will be a $10 per person additional charge for all registrations & payments received after Thursday, October 18, 2018.

Non-driving scout fee = $32
Parent Driving, parent and scout fee = $12 each
Late fee (after Oct. 18) = $42
