Nov. 2020 Troop 55G Outing – Hiking & Camping Trip

When: November 21-22, 2020
Where: Rocky Gap State Park
Time: Arrive at the St. Francis parking lot at 7:00 AM on Saturday, Nov. 21; Return to St. Francis by noon on Sunday, Nov. 22nd.

Rocky Gap State Park is located in Western Maryland’s Allegany County. The park encompasses over 3,000 acres of public land for visitors to enjoy. Rugged mountains surround the park. The 243-acre Lake Habeeb is known for having the “bluest water in the state.” The lake is fed by Rocky Gap Run, which winds its way through an impressive mile-long gorge, displaying sheer cliffs, overlooks and a hemlock forest dense with rhododendron and mountain laurel. Overlooking the lake is Evitts Mountain, named for one of the first European settlers in Allegany County.

Scouts will need to bring a bag lunch to eat on the trail. Scouts must be prepared for cold weather and should remember the potential need for layered, synthetic clothing when they pack. Rain gear and a warm sleeping bag are a must, as well as a change into warm dry clothes (no cotton) for sleeping, extra layers (no cotton) to add on, and extra pairs of dry socks. It will be cold in the evening.

Scouts must arrive at St. Francis at 7:00 am. Saturday morning after having breakfast or have brought breakfast with them. They must bring a personal trail lunch for hiking.  

Due to COVID-19 safety consideration, we require all scouts and adults wearing masks during car ride,  do not share food and drink, and do their best for social distance. By signing this registration, the participant(s) and the parents agree to the COVID19 risk and liability acknowledgement and agreement (Link here).

There is a $20 fee for each scout and parent attending (which includes a $10 transportation fee). The transportation fee is waived for both scout and parent if the parent is driving.
