May 22-23, 2021 Outing – James River Canoeing

When: May 22-23, 2021
Where: Twin River Outfitters; Gala Campground*; James River Canoeing
Time: Arrive at St. Francis parking lot at 7:00 am on Saturday, May 22nd and return to St. Francis mid-afternoon on Sunday, May 23rd

Note:  Scouts should eat prior to the trip on Saturday or bring breakfast for the car ride, and pack a lunch for a picnic prior to afternoon canoeing at James River on Saturday, and bring some cash for Sunday lunch.

Twin River Outfitters is the oldest and most experienced outfitter on the Upper James River and has been safely running paddle trips since 1978. Grab your paddle and get ready for an adventure of James River canoeing and kayaking. We will be camping at  Arcadia Campground. Canoeing will start at 2pm on Saturday afternoon for about 3 hours, while Saturday evening will feature dinner by patrol.

We will bring our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Patrols are responsible for Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Scouts should either eat breakfast at home or bring a meal for the car on Saturday morning. Scouts may want to bring a snack to eat during the return trip on Sunday and /or money for a snack if the driver stop. Scouts should remember to protect themselves from mosquitos and other bugs by bringing appropriate spray, as well as extra pairs of dry clothes. Rain gear is always a good idea — even if it doesn’t rain, it is great wind protection.

 Waiver   All participants (Adults and scouts) must sign the Vendor’s Release of Liability form.

There is a $90 fee ((which includes a $25 transportation fee) for each scout and parent attending. The Transportation fee ($25) is waived for both scout and parent if the parent is driving.

Due to COVID-19 safety consideration, we require all scouts and adults wearing masks during car ride,  do not share food and drink, and do their best for social distance.
