Troop 55 continues its backpacking ventures with a hike on the Potomac Heritage Trail, in Great Falls, VA, where the group will enjoy spectacularly scenic views. On this trip, Patrols will hike the approximately 10 mile trip, along with their Patrol Advisor, at their own pace. New Scouts will be car camping and will pack accordingly (see BSA55.com website). New Scouts will meet-up with the rest of the troop at the backpacking camp site. New Scouts should bring a daypack for a short hike.
Scouts should eat breakfast at home before arriving at the church for departure. Patrols will provide the following meals so some scouts have an opportunity to complete their 1st Class cooking requirements and some Cooking Merit Badge requirements: For Saturday patrols will prepare trail lunch and cooked backpacking dinner. For Sunday patrols will cook breakfast and prepare a trail lunch. Each patrol has its own equipment for food preparation. For patrol meals, each scout needs a plastic bowl, plastic cup and plastic spoon.
Each hiker should bring at least two 32 oz. Nalgene bottles for water. Scouts should remember the potential need for layered clothing when they pack. Synthetic clothing is preferred. Bring rain gear (no ponchos please) and a warm sleeping bag. It could be cold in the evening. Pack for changeable weather, and be ready for a great adventure in the woods.
There is a $38 fee for each scout and parent attending.
Early payment price $28, if registration & payment are received by March 5th.
