Troop 55 continues its backpacking ventures with a trip to a portion of the Appalachian Trail, Crab Tree Falls, and Spy Rock. On this trip, we will hike 9 miles over two days in the George Washington National Forest. New Scouts will be car camping and will pack accordingly (see Troop Camping Gear Checklist).  New Scouts should also bring a daypack for the short hikes on Saturday (2-4 miles depending on the weather) and Sunday (3 miles).  New Scouts will utilize troop chuckbox gear for cooking and work with the Troop Guides to practice the Patrol Method.

Scouts should either eat breakfast at home or bring a meal for the car on Saturday morning. Patrols will provide the following meals so some scouts have an opportunity to complete their 1st Class cooking requirements:  For Saturday patrols will prepare trail lunch and cooked backpacking dinner.  For Sunday patrols will cook breakfast.   Scouts should bring money to purchase Sunday lunch on the return ride. Each patrol has its own equipment for food preparation. For patrol meals, each scout needs a plastic bowl, plastic cup and plastic spoon.
