March Outing – Gettysburg Bike or Hike – March 18-19

When: Mar 18-19, 2017

Where:  Artillery Ridge Campground, Gettysburg, PA

Time: Arrive at the St. Francis parking lot at 7:00 am on Saturday, March 18, 2017 Return to St. Francis mid-afternoon on Sunday, March 19, 2017

Troop 55 will travel to Gettysburg, PA and learn about the Battle of Gettysburg, a turning point in the Civil War, the setting for President Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address”. The group will camp at Artillery Ridge Campground, a National Historic site of the Union Artillery Reserve.  New scouts will be hiking as a patrol.  Scouts older than 12 will have 2 options:  Option 1 is a 14 – mile bike ride.  Option 2 is a 4 – mile hike.  Those under 12 should check with the scoutmaster for approval. All bikers must bring their own bikes (capable of this ride), and helmets.

We will bring our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Patrols are responsible for Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Scouts should eat Sat breakfast prior to arrival or bring a meal for the car on Saturday morning. Scouts may want to bring a snack to eat during the return trip on Sunday and /or money for lunch if the driver stops. Scouts should remember the potential need for layered clothing when they pack, and they should bring a warm sleeping bag. Remember, rain gear and sunscreen are essential!

There is a $45 fee (including $15 transportation) for each scout and parent attending. THE TRANSPORTATION FEE IS WAIVED FOR BOTH SCOUT AND PARENT IF THE PARENT IS DRIVING.  Early payment price $45 non driver/$30 if driving if registration & payment are received by March 8, 2017.  After this date, there is a $10 late fee = $55 non driver/$40 driver.
