Scouts will enjoy car camping at Camp Snyder in Haymarket, VA on Saturday night after ice skating at Haymarket IcePlex from 11:30am to 1PM. Scouts also have the opportunity to visit the NRA National Firearms museum located in Fairfax.

The NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia, consists of 15 galleries comprised of 85 exhibit cases housing 3,000 firearms in a 15,000 square foot facility. The Museum details and examines the nearly 700-year history of firearms with a special emphasis on firearms, freedom, and the American experience. Each gallery is evocative of a period of time in American history, from the stockade fort at Jamestown to the gun factories of New England. Life-sized dioramas include a nineteenth-century rifle maker’s shop, a trench on the Western Front in WWI, and a shelled-out town square in Normandy in WWII. The firearms tell the stories of how they were used to provide security and sustenance to the early colonists, how they were used to secure our freedom and independence and have been used ever since to maintain and preserve those liberties. Within the galleries are also tales of exploration, manufacturing, competition, hunting, and recreational shooting sports.

Troop 55 will use this opportunity to explore an excellent presentation of firearms throughout history and ice-skating skills. They will also learn scout skill development during the day. Scouts should pack a breakfast or snack in the morning as well as a bag lunch. We will bring our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Patrols will be responsible for dinner on Saturday, and Sunday breakfast.

Scouts must be prepared for cold weather and should remember the potential need for layered, synthetic clothing when they pack. Rain gear and a warm sleeping bag are a must, as well as a change into warm dry clothes (no cotton) for sleeping, extra layers (no cotton) to add on, and extra pairs of dry socks. It will be cold in the evening.

There is a $35 fee for each scout and parent attending. THE TRANSPORTATION FEE IS WAIVED FOR BOTH SCOUT AND PARENT IF THE PARENT IS DRIVING. There will be a $10 per person additional charge for all registrations & payments received after Friday, January 11, 2019.
