Dec. 2019 Outing – Cooking Competition/Camping/Webelos Visit

When: December 6-7, 2019
Where: St. Francis Church in Great Falls, VA
Time: Arrive at the St. Francis at 6pm on Friday, December 6 after dinner at home or bring a bag dinner. Cooking competition and Webelos visits will take place on Saturday, December 6th. Parents are invited to join the scouts to taste their cooking competition meals at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 7 at St. Francis.

Scouts will enjoy car camping on the St. Francis Church grounds in Great Falls on Friday night beginning at 6 p.m. Troop 55 will use this opportunity to work on pioneering skills, as well as scout skill development. We will have an open house and Webelos from various cub scout dens will visit our troop during the day Saturday. Scouts also will participate in the annual troop-wide cooking competition. The scouts of Troop 55 are cooking aficionados, and the cooking competition is a favorite activity among the troop, with menus ranging from deep-fried food, Italian, Asian, Mexican, and a variety of other culinary themes.

We will use our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Patrols are responsible for Saturday breakfast, lunch, and the competition dinner.

Scouts must be prepared for cold weather and should remember the potential need for layered, synthetic clothing when they pack. Rain gear and a warm sleeping bag are a must, as well as a change into warm dry clothes (no cotton) for sleeping, extra layers (no cotton) to add on, and extra pairs of dry socks. It will be cold in the evening.

Registration and payment is due by Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019

There is a $30 fee that covers meals for each scout and each patrol’s cooking competition menu. Registration and payment are due by Wednesday, December 4th. After this date, the late registration fee will be $40.
