The Lower Yough (adult and youth Age 12+, including age 12 by August 30th 2020)

The Lower Yough is 7.5 miles of Class III – III + whitewater rapids. It is considered a “drop & pool” river: the rapids are separated by calm deep pools, allowing you to catch your breath and enjoy the scenery. It’s a thrilling whitewater experience & full of adventure! Participants should be at least 12 years old with some paddling experience.  (2020 Ohiopyle adventure protocols)

The Middle Yough (adult and youth age 5 to 11 , by August 30th 2020)

Between Confluence and Ohiopyle lies the Middle Yough, a section of the renowned Youghiogheny River that runs from Maryland into Pennsylvania. The Middle Youghiogheny section is a step milder than the Lower Yough and appropriate for children as young as 5. It is a gentle Class I-II mild river trip through beautiful Ohiopyle State Park. Class I-II means there are some ripples and a little splashy water, but no large whitewater rapids.

This trip begins and ends at Wilderness Voyageurs facility in Ohiopyle. You will park and check in at their Ftore on Garrett Street. After you’ve checked in, they will suit you up with your lifejacket. Then they’ll transport you to the launch area on the river. Once you have been introduced to your craft and given a paddle, your river guide will give a safety talk and rafting orientation.

Please don’t forget to bring closed-toe shoes (KEENs or water shoes), a towel, sunscreen, and dry change of clothes for after the rafting. Scouts should wear Class B uniform. Leave phone in the car and only bring water-proof camera.

Recommend one parent stay with kid under age 10 during the rafting.

Waiver  All participants (Adults and scouts) must sign the Release of Liability waiver

We will bring troop first-aid kid and some extra masks, meals are planned and prepared by individual scouts. Scouts please eat breakfast at home, bring a bag lunch in a water-proof bag for Sunday lunch and some extra snacks.  Scouts may want to bring a snack to eat before the return trip and/or money for a snack if the driver stop. Scouts should remember to protect themselves from sun, mosquitos and other bugs by bringing appropriate spray, as well as extra pairs of dry clothes. Rain gear is always a good idea — even if it doesn’t rain, it is great wind protection. Please bring 2 water bottles and close toe shoe for canoeing safety. Bring a dry-bag to store away cellphone, lunch, extra dry cloth, sun screen and snacks on the river.

Due to COVID-19 safety consideration, we require all scouts and adults wearing masks during car ride, bus shuttles to drop off/pickup, do not share food and drink, and do their best for social distance. By signing this registration, the participant(s) and the parents agree to the COVID19 risk and liability acknowledgement and agreement (Link here).

There are just a few things to remember to ensure that you and the rest of your group have a safe and enjoyable time on the river. Please don’t bring any glass bottles, Styrofoam coolers, or flip flops. Everyone must have the proper footwear to participate in any of our river activities. River shoes, tennis shoes, or sandals with a heel strap are examples of approved footwear.
