April Outing – Assateague Camping

When: April 20 – 21, 2013
Where: Assateague Island National Seashore
Time: Arrive at the St. Francis parking lot at 6:30 am on Saturday, April 20, 2013
Return to St. Francis mid-afternoon on Sunday, April 21, 2013

We will camp at Assateague Island National Seashore campground. Scouts will visit a place recreated each day by ocean wind and waves, and explore sandy beaches, salt marshes, maritime forests and coastal bays.
Troop 55 will use this unique backdrop to work on scout skill development and developing patrol companionship. Saturday evening will feature an exciting campfire, where scouts will again have the opportunity to earn
points for their patrol in this year’s inter patrol competition.

We will bring our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Patrols are responsible for Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Scouts should either
eat breakfast at home or bring a meal for the car on Saturday morning. Scouts may want to bring a snack to eat during the return trip on Sunday and /or money for a snack IF the driver stops, as it is a 3-hour drive.
Scouts should remember the potential need for layered clothing when they pack, and they should bring a warm sleeping bag. Scouts should consider bringing hats and gloves, as it may get cold and windy later on in
the night. Remember, rain gear is an essential, even if it doesn’t rain it is great wind protection!
