Finished at Great Falls Library around 11am on Sunday October 22nd
This outing scouts need to cover many activities: hiking or biking , camping and cooking. So please pay attention to the schedule.
October 21, 2023 tentative schedule
8:00AM scouts meet at St. Francis Church parking lot
9:00am – 10:00am: scouts arrive at the Robert C McDonell Campground( 7701 Tuckerman Ln, Rockville, MD 20854) and set up troop trailer, tents and patrol cooking area
11:00am – 11:30am: scouts arrive at Maryland Great Falls National Park (MD) , 11710 Macarthur Blvd, Potomac, MD 20854
11:30am – 3:30PM: scouts hiking at the Billy Goat Trail, or biking at the C & O Canal Towpath
4:00pm – 5:00pm: return to the Robert C McDonell Campground( 7701 Tuckerman Ln, Rockville, MD 20854)
5:00pm -11:59pm, cooking dinner and camping at the Robert C McDonell Campground
October 22nd, 2023 tentative schedule
7:00am -10: 30am, cooking breakfast, Sunday worship service and camping at the Robert C McDonell Campground, return to Great Falls Library around 11am
11:30am Oct 21st Biking Option: Troop 55 will not provide bike for the scouts. Scouts need to bring your own bicycle and hamlet for biking. Scouts will need to bring a bag lunch to eat on the trail. Bring water for the bike ride and wear comfortable clothes and shoes on a ride. Scouts must also be prepared cold day when they bike. As always, water bottles, sunscreen and rain gear is always a good idea. Parents : please transport the bike for your own scout(s) to the St. Francis Church at drop off around 8:00am on Oct 21st , and prepare to pick up the bike at the Great Falls Library at 11am.
11:30am Oct 21st Hiking Option: Troop 55 scouts will enjoy a daypack hike on the Billy Goat Trail section A scrambling over steep cliffs, climbing on angled rocks and boulders and enjoying beautiful views of the Potomac River. The return of the circuit hike is along the C&O Canal Towpath. Please wear hiking boots and bring a day pack for rain gears and snacks and water.
Each Scout needs to bring a daypack, two Nalgene water bottles, a bagged lunch for Saturday and a snack for the trail hike. As always, they need to be prepared for wet, cold, and windy weather on the trail and in camp. Raingear, non-cotton clothing layers, extra socks, hats, gloves, and hiking boots are highly recommended. Scouts will plan and prepare Saturday’s dinner, Sunday’s breakfast at camp site as a patrol. During these potentially cold trips, always err on the side of caution and PACK EXTRA CLOTHES & WARM SLEEPING GEAR.

There is a $30 fee for each scout and parent attending (which includes a $20 transportation fee). THE TRANSPORTATION FEE IS WAIVED FOR BOTH SCOUT AND PARENT IF THE PARENT IS DRIVING.
Non-driving scout fee = $30
Parent Driving, scout fee = $10 each, adult volunteer is free.
