Burke Lake is a 218 acres (88 ha) freshwater reservoir in Fairfax Station, Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It is contained within Burke Lake Park, a Fairfax County public park owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). Burke Lake is formed by a dam on South Run, a tributary stream of the Potomac River. Fairfax County permits visitors to use the lake for fishing, electric-motor, and paddle/row boating. The lake has 4.5 miles (7.2 km) of fishing shoreline, three fishing bulkheads at the state game area, a fishing pier, a public & marina & public launch ramps, and a boat launching dock. Both the fishing bulkheads and the fishing pier are accessible to persons with disabilities. Swimming is prohibited. A 4.68-mile (7.53 km) trail surrounds the lake starting at the marina parking lot.

Scouts (Age 16 and above) and adults will need a fishing license for fishing at Burke Lake. See this link for fishing license informationYouth under 16 does not need a fishing license. Please bring your own fishing rod for patrol fishing competition.

Patrol Fishing competition/Canoeing/Rowing will start at 8:00 ~8:30 am on Sunday morning for about 4~5 hours (bagged lunch from patrol), while Saturday afternoon will feature 4.68-mile hike around the lake, camping and cooking by patrol. After the fishing/canoeing/rowing, scouts will continue camping at the burke camp site for Sunday night ( extra night camping will help scouts with BSA Honor Society-Order of Arrow eligibility and camping MB requirement ). Troop will return to Great Falls St Francis Church early Monday morning to prepare for Great Falls Memorial Day service starting at 10:00am.

We will bring troop first-aid kid and some extra masks. Scouts please eat lunch at home,  patrol will cook Saturday dinner,  Sunday breakfast/lunch/dinner at Burke lake park.   Scouts should remember to protect themselves from sun(sun glasses, hat and sun screen), mosquitoes and other bugs by bringing appropriate spray, as well as extra pairs of dry clothes. Rain gear is always a good idea — even if it doesn’t rain, it is great wind protection. Please bring 2 water bottles and close toe shoe for boating safety. Bring a dry-bag to store away Sunday lunch, extra dry cloth, sun screen and snacks on the river, please leave the cell phone at car or at home.

Per COVID-19 safety consideration, we require all scouts follow driver’s request during car ride,  do not share food and drink, and do their best for social distance, mask is optional at outdoor. By signing this registration, the participant(s) and the parents agree to the COVID19 risk and liability acknowledgement and agreement (Link here).

There are just a few things to remember to ensure that you and the rest of your group have a safe and enjoyable time on the river. Please don’t bring any glass bottles, Styrofoam coolers, or flip flops. Everyone must have the proper footwear to participate in any of our river activities. River shoes, tennis shoes, or sandals with a heel strap are examples of approved footwear.

There is a $65 fee(campsite fee, food, boat rental) for each scout and adult attending. The extra Transportation fee ($10, so total is 75) is waived for both scout and parent if the parent is driving.
