Add some adventure to your vacation with a Shenandoah River canoe trip! Canoes have long been considered the ideal watercraft for paddling the South Fork of the Shenandoah. This stretch of river flowing between the George Washington National Forest and the Shenandoah National Park with its many excellent fishing spots, riffles, and small rapids is easily explored by canoe; making the canoe the perfect choice for families and groups alike. The canoe has been used for trade and transportation along the river since the earliest recorded history in the Valley, so come out and enjoy the history, beauty, and tradition that canoeing entails in the Shenandoah Valley. From beautiful mountain views to lush pastoral farm land, the vistas will astonish both young and old. We look forward to providing your river experience in the Canoe Capital of Virginia.

Canoeing will start at 10:30 pm on Sunday morning for about 2~3 hours, while Saturday evening will feature Elizabeth Furnace camping and cooking by troop and patrols. After the camping and cooking on Sunday morning, scouts will head to Front Royal for Sunday afternoon canoeing.

We will bring troop first-aid kid and some extra masks, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Scouts please eat lunch at home, bring some extra snacks, and cook Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast at campsite, as well as prepare bag lunch on Sunday.  Scouts may want to bring a snack to eat before the return trip on Sunday and/or money for a snack if the driver stop. Scouts should remember to protect themselves from sun, mosquitos and other bugs by bringing appropriate spray, as well as extra pairs of dry clothes. Rain gear is always a good idea — even if it doesn’t rain, it is great wind protection. Please bring 2 water bottles and close toe shoe for canoeing safety. Bring a dry-bag to store away cellphone, lunch, extra dry cloth, sun screen and snacks on the river.

Due to COVID-19 safety consideration, each driver will decide the mask policy for each car,  and each participant to do their best for social distance. By signing this registration, the participant(s) and the parents agree to the COVID19 risk (Link here) and general liability acknowledgement and agreement (Link here)

There are just a few things to remember to ensure that you and the rest of your group have a safe and enjoyable time on the river. Please don’t bring any glass bottles, Styrofoam coolers, or flip flops. Everyone must have the proper footwear to participate in any of our river activities. River shoes, tennis shoes, or sandals with a heel strap are examples of approved footwear. We ask that all participants watch the online river safety video. Please remember that the earlier you arrive, the quicker we can get you on the river.  For more information on bringing personal items, please the visit vendor’s  What to Bring page.

There is a $70 fee (not include $20 transportation fee) for each scout and parent attending. The Transportation fee ($20) is waived for both scout and parent if the parent is helping the troop driving scouts to front royal canoe shop.

Registration and payment is due by Thursday, July 28, 2022, we have limit number of canoes, first come first serve

NO space guaranteed if we run out of canoes or kayaks
