2022 January Outing – Virginia Inaugural Parade and Camping at Albright Scout Reservation

Sorry, We already max out the attendance limit for parade and no longer take registration as of 10PM 01/13/2021. Camping is cancelled due to possible snow condition on I95 on Sunday morning.

When: January 15-16 2022
Where: Richmond, VA and Albright Scout Reservation
Time: Arrive at the St. Francis at 6AM on Saturday, January 15th after breakfast at home or bring a bag breakfast. Virginia Governor’s Inaugural Parade will take place on Saturday, January 15th from 9:00am to 2:30pm. Lunch will be provided for Saturday parade event. Class A+ uniform for the parade, please wear layers under the uniform to keep body warm.

After the parade, scouts will enjoy car camping on the Albright Scout Reservation on Saturday night beginning at 4 p.m. Troop 55 will use this opportunity to work on orienteering and hiking skills, as well as scout skill development. Troop 55 will monitor the winter weather in case of bad weather we will cancel the camping section and make the outing a day trip.

We will use our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Patrols are responsible for Saturday dinner  and the Sunday morning breakfast.

Scouts must be prepared for cold weather and should remember the potential need for layered, synthetic clothing when they pack. Rain gear and a warm sleeping bag are a must, as well as a change into warm dry clothes (no cotton) for sleeping, extra layers (no cotton) to add on, and extra pairs of dry socks. It will be cold in the evening.

Virginia Inaugural Parade  Parade schedule:

  • Everybody is to arrive by 9:00 AM to the intersection of franklin and belvidere. When you arrive at this intersection you will be met with a map, directions, and ushers that will bring you to your staging location.
  • Once you are at your staging location you will be brought your boxed lunches by our food volunteers to your location. You can then eat those before or after parade, whenever is up to you. You will also be brought water.
  • You can use the next hour and a half or so to warm up, eat and move to grace street where you will line up for the parade. (There will be national guard and volunteers that will guide you throughout the entire process).
  • You must be in line ready to go by 11:30 and the first parade movement will begin shortly after 12:00 with the actual parade beginning about 1:00.
  • Everything will be over by 2:30 and you will finish the parade route around the capitol and then exit to your staging location where you can then depart!

Registration and payment is due by Thursday, January 13, 2022

There is a $20 fee that covers the basic scouting activity fee, camping cost and food , there is $20 extra for transporation (waivered for scouts and adult leaders if the scout’s parent driving the car for the car pool). Registration and payment are due by Thursday, January 13th 2022.
