The Lower Yough is 7.5 miles of Class III – III + whitewater rapids. It is considered a “drop & pool” river: the rapids are separated by calm deep pools, allowing you to catch your breath and enjoy the scenery. It’s a thrilling whitewater experience & full of adventure! Participants should be at least 12 years old with some paddling experience.

The traditional trip format for the Lower Youghiogheny, is called “Guide Escorted.” This means you will be captain of your own raft. River guides are in rafts and kayaks around you to explain how to navigate the rapids. It’s essential to pay attention to the guides and their directions! Wilderness Voyageurs has conducted more than 600,000 people down the Lower Yough in this format over the last 50+ years. If you would like to have a guide in your raft or experience a smaller, more intimate rafting trip, there are multiple trip formats available on the Lower Yough.
