Troop Virtual Campout – Scorpions & Eagles Historian Report – May. 9-10, 2020

Picture1  By: Drew Kim (Scorpions)

The virtual outing this past weekend was a different, yet fun outing. We began by all setting up our tents outside and took pictures to send to our patrol leaders. Everyone in the Scorpions was able to participate in this activity. After that, we began making dinner, the scorpions made chicken fried rice, and even though I could not make chicken fried rice, the other members of the scorpions were able to make good food. Once we finished eating and properly cooking, the entire troop did a “virtual campfire” and we all told skits and stories. Some of the skits were through talking to others on the zoom meeting, and others were videos made by people in their patrols. When we were done with skits and announcements, the troop was able to do advancement, fortunately everyone in the Scorpions patrol was able to move on to another rank. After that we went to bed outside, some of us slept. In the morning, we had announcements and service, then the outing was over. I really enjoyed the outing this time, and I felt like the SPL and our patrol leaders did a really good job of communicating to us.

It was my and probably most of the people in the troop’s first online outing. Overall it felt pretty good and was kind of like normal outings. It took less effort because you didn’t have to bring a bag and pack food and such. There weren’t many challenges during the outing except contacting others for help for scout requirements or such. There were fewer difficulties than if we went somewhere to go camping. Overall, the outing was good in all areas and I think these outings would be a good replacement for the ones we will miss.
