BSA Troop 55, based out of Great Falls, VA and chartered by St. Francis Episcopal Church, nominated in 4 categories, was honored with 3 awards today at the Volunteer Fairfax award ceremony.
Troop 55 is the recipient of the 2015 Fairfax Volunteer Service Award (Youth Volunteer Group) . We are very honored to compete in this category with other honorable youth volunteer groups from Fairfax county, including CLIPUS Foundation, Wheels to Africa and Youth of Rock Spring Group.
Troop 55 scouts in 2014 collected 2,640 pounds of food for local food pantries, participate in many community service endeavors throughout the year, including adopt-a-highway, the First Time Camper program at Wolf Trap Park, the Halloween Haunted House at the Great Falls Spooktacular (more than 500 visitors within 2 hrs of service), scout Eagle Projects and service at their charter organization St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls.
Scoutmaster Gary Pan was honored in the Benchmark 1000 category for volunteers with over 1000 hours of community service. Lead Assistant Scoutmaster Ted Reuss was honored in the Benchmark 500 category for volunteers with over 500 hours of community service. Former Senior Patrol Leader Wesley P. was nominated for the Youth Individual Category.
Over the last 22 years, Volunteer Fairfax has recognized more than 2,700 individuals for their commitment to the community. Our community is a better place because of volunteers. Volunteer Fairfax’s annual county-wide volunteer recognition event is attended by more than 500 community members. Individuals and groups can be nominated in one of 15 competitive categories and four non-competitive categories.
