Troop 55 will travel to Gettysburg, PA and learn about the Battle of Gettysburg, a turning point in the Civil War, the setting for President Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address”. The group will camp at Artillery Ridge Campground, conduct an orienteering instructional session, see a short movie at the visitor’s center, then the group will split – some will go on a biking tour through the battlefield (14 miles), and the rest will do a 4 mile hike. All bikers must have helmets, and have bikes that are capable of this ride.
We will bring our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Scouts need to have a day pack, with Lunch and water in it for the days activities. Patrols are responsible for Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Scouts should either eat breakfast at home or bring a meal for the car on Saturday morning. Scouts should remember the potential need for layered clothing when they pack, and they should bring a warm sleeping bag. Remember, rain gear and sunscreen are essential!
