Troop 55 2014 Summer Challenge 1: “ScoutStrong Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA)” Challenge
For the summer of 2014, Troop 55 is launching the 6 week challenge “ScoutStrong Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA)”. This challenge is for everyone associated with Troop 55, including Scouts, Venturers, Parents, Adult Leaders, Committee Members, Friends of Scouting, and Troop 55 Alumni.
To earn the SCOUTStrong PALA Challenge Award, you are required to meet a weekly nutrition goal, as well as a daily activity goal of 30 minutes a day for adults and 60 minutes a day for kids (under 18) for at least five days a week, for six out of eight weeks. Troop 55 is initiating the program this summer, and intends to run the program year round for Troop 55 scouts.
We encourage the participants to use the online tracking system to log their activities. Please go to the following link (under age 14 must get permission from a parent) http://www.scouting.org/scoutstrongpala.aspx to create an account. Please select “Maryland” for “State” drop down, and “National Capital Area Council -082″ for “Council”. Once you create an account, make sure you go to “Account Settings” to enter your first name, last name, address and email information, and look up our group in the My Challenge application using the group number below.

Once a scout completes the 6-week challenge, please email Mr. Ye at email yejeff [at] hotmail [dot] com to coordinate and schedule a short review process (either with the Scout’s patrol leader or a Troop 55 adult leader). We will consolidate and forward the Scout’s award information to the Troop 55 Award coordinator. Scouts who complete the program will receive a “ScoutStrong” special patch. We will present this program award to scouts during the Court of Honor that follows their completion.
After participants complete this challenge, they can continue the program with “Presidential Champions”(https://www.presidentschallenge.org/challenge/champions/index.shtml). The activity points that participants earned during “ScoutStrong PALA” challenge can be carried forward for to this new program. Troop 55 will support and encourage scouts to stay physically active every day by recognizing Scouts through this program.
