Antietam outing historian report

We had a great time at the Antietam outing. We gathered at St Francis at 6:30 am and hit the road by 7:30. It only took us
about an hour and a half to get to the campground on the edge of the battlefield because it is pretty close to Great Falls. We set up camp and by 10 am or so we were ready to start the main activity of the outing.

Some of the Troop went on a hike to and around the battlefield and back. I went on a bike ride which was supposed to be
25 miles long. Because we got lost for a bit and biked more through the battlefield than originally planned, we actually probably went more like 30 miles. The bike trip along the C&O Canal was shady and level. But the last ten miles was uphill and pretty hard and it started getting hot.

When we got back to the battlefield we cooked dinner and cleaned up. It was Timmy Feng’s last outing with the Troop and his family surprised him and brought cake and ice cream for the whole Troop. Then we had a campfire and went to bed. I was pretty
tired from the bike trip.

The next morning we made breakfast, cleaned up and had a service. We got back to Great Falls by 11 am which had to be something like a record.
