This weekend, we went whitewater rafting. Not only was it a complete blast with awesome food, whitewater rafting, and an awesome campfire, but it was also a good experience for the new scouts, as there were 12 of them on this past outing. After a mix-up with the GPS, we finally got to the site to camp at around 11:00. As a weary group, we set up our tents and went to bed. The next morning, after sleeping on a rock, like a rock, we paid a visit to the provider to get our wetsuits. And boy, did we need them! The water was refreshing to say the least at a tropical absolute freezing. After a great time paddling and swooshing down fast and frothy rapids, throwing each other in the water and having an overall great time, we went back to camp, our hearts full of fun… until it rained. Only a little fell, so it was ok, but it could have been better. Finally, after a campfire that I MC’d, we went to bed after an exhausting day. The next morning, we moved swiftly packing up our things and we headed off. The new scouts had amazing food and were phenomenal, making it a great experience for everyone. We went home in our respective cars and I’ll admit I slept awhile in the car. Finally we got back and we all have stories to tell!

We got to our campsite at Ohiopyle State Park very late.  There must have been something wrong with the directions.  So we set up camp in the dark which was actually pretty much fun.  I helped a bunch of the new scouts who came.  A lot of them had not set up tents before.  I also helped the get the lanterns up and lit once the trailer arrived.  The SPL saw that there was no water on the campsite so the SPL and a  few of us took the water jugs down to the water spigot to fill them up so there would be water the next morning at breakfast. We spent our time helping the new scouts.  We taught them how to cook, use the chuck boxes and clean up and generally how to act at camp.  Then we all drove with the adult leaders to the outfitters.  The new scouts and older scouts divided into two groups.  The older scouts went on a rougher part of the river.  It had been raining so the river was pretty high and running fast.  Many scouts and leaders fell into the water either because of being thrown out by the rapids or jumping out for fun.  We all had wet suits on but the water was still super cold when you got in it.  When we got back to camp, we made dinner and cleaned up.  The campfire felt great and the skits were fun.
