BSA55 Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival

 WHO:        Boy Scout and Venture units

WHAT:       Cherry Blossom Festival

WHERE:     Downtown DC on Pennsylvania Avenue from 9th to 14th Streets NW (from FBI headquarters to near the White House grounds).

WHEN:       Saturday, 12 April

WHY:          a.) have fun at the annual Cherry Blossom Festival,

                    b.) get free admission for scouts and Scouters who volunteer,

                    c.) get issued a “uniform” hat,

                    d.) get credit for service hours,

                    e.) earn credit toward the International Spirit Award (both scouts and Scouters),

                    f.) earn credit toward the Citizenship in the World merit badge,

                    g.) get a free commemorative Sakura Matsuri pin.

DUTIES:     Scouts will hand out programs or provide directions from the Metro stations to the festival. They will be asked to work one 3-hour shift but if we get enough volunteers, this will be reduced to one 2-hour shift. Full Class A uniforms are mandatory.

 

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES:

          Only units are allowed to register, not individual scouts, but as few as two scouts may represent your unit. The on-line registration link is:

          Participants are STRONGLY advised to take Metro to the event. Closest stations are Federal Triangle (Orange/Blue lines), Metro Center (Red/Orange/Blue), or Archives Navy Memorial (Yellow/Green). Bottled water will be provided by the festival organizers but scouts might want to bring their own reusable bottles. There will be many food vendors so bringing lunch or snacks is optional.
