Registration for Assateague Outing – May 13-14 2017

Arrive: St. Francis Parking Lot at 7:00 am, Saturday, May 13 
Return: St. Francis mid-afternoon on Sunday, May 14

Troop 55 will camp at Assateague Island State Park, which is Maryland’s only oceanfront park. It is located on Assateague Island, a barrier island bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Sinepuxent Bay on the west. It has two miles of ocean beaches for swimming, beachcombing, and fishing. Scouts will explore via kayak/canoe/paddle board the bayside area’s secluded coves and marsh areas, which have a variety of wildlife, including deer, waterfowl and wild horses. On Saturday afternoon, scouts will go canoeing/kayaking/paddle boarding, while Saturday evening will feature dinner and campfires.

We will bring our trailer with all troop and patrol equipment, and as always, meals are planned and prepared by patrols. Patrols are responsible for Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Scouts should either eat breakfast at home or bring a meal for the car on Saturday morning. Scouts may want to bring a snack to eat during the return trip on Sunday and /or money for a snack if the driver stops, as it is a 3-hour drive. Scouts should remember to protect themselves from mosquitos and other bugs by bringing appropriate spray, as well as extra pairs of dry clothes. Rain gear is always a good idea — even if it doesn’t rain, it is great wind protection!

There is a $85 fee ($25 transportation) for each scout and parent attending. THE TRANSPORTATION FEE IS WAIVED FOR BOTH SCOUT AND PARENT IF THE PARENT IS DRIVING ($60).

Early payment price $75 (NON DRIVER), $50 (DRIVER), if registration & payment are received by May 1, 2017.
