May 2015 Outing – Cheat River Whitewater Rafting

When: May 15 – 17, 2015
Where:   Cheat River, Albright, WV
Time:  Arrive at the St. Francis parking lot at 4:30 for a 5:00 departure, Friday, May 15th
Return to St. Francis around noon on Sunday, May 17th

The Cheat River Watershed is the largest free flowing watershed in the Eastern United States. The Cheat is one of the few rivers that flows Northward – with its beginnings in West Virginia’s highest mountains. The river offers whitewater rapids for all ages and levels of experience.  The outfitters will provide all the equipment and a trained guide.

The Cheat Canyon stretches 13 miles from Albright, WV to Jenkinsburg Bridge. This 13 mile section of river contains over 30 rapids rated Class III to Class V, all surrounded by the beauty of a spectacular wilderness canyon. Participants must be at least 14 years old, and experienced. The trip includes lunch on Saturday (sandwiches, chips, fruits, drinks) and a wetsuit. Cost: $105

The Cheat Narrows winds 10 miles along scenic Rt. 72 just north of Albright Visitors Center. The Narrows are full of massive boulders, crystal clear water. The Narrows are a great whitewater trip for beginners and advanced paddlers alike (scouts that are 13 and under). The trip includes lunch on Saturday (sandwiches, chips, fruits, drinks) and a wetsuit. Cost: $86

Scouts should bring a meal for the car on Friday evening and some cash for lunch on the return on Sunday.  Saturday breakfast, dinner, Sunday breakfast is planned and prepared by patrols.

Please don’t forget to bring a dry change of clothes for after the rafting. Also, sun protection is essential.

Scouts should wear Class B uniform.

All participants must sign the Release of Liability: 18 and over can fill out all shaded areas above the bold line.  Under 18 must fill out.  Age and Address section above the line and all shaded areas below the bold line.  Please fill out and print the appropriate forms below and bring them to a troop meeting.
