Troop 55 High Adventure Program
Scouts 13 and older on the date of departure
are eligible to participate in Troop 55's High Adventure activities and outings.
We have been busy planning an "outside of the box" program which includes venues
beyond the traditional. So if you're ready for our traditional treks to Philmont, Northern Tier, and Sea Base, or if you are looking beyond these
venues, stay tuned to this page!
Philmont Scout Ranch
-- (three crews - June 29 - July 13, July 13 - 27, July 23
- August 4, 2008)
is a national camping area, owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America.
Philmont is large, comprising 137,493 acres or about 215 square miles of rugged
mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the
Rockies. 32 staffed camps and 50 non-staffed camps are operated by the
ranch. Philmont has high mountains which dominate rough terrain with an
elevation ranging from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.
Northern
Tier National High Adventure Bases --
(July 31 - August 08, 2006, none in 2007)
trek into
the seldom explored northern wilderness of Minnesota and Manitoba and Ontario,
Canada. From June to September, Northern Tier offers Scouts and
Venturers the world's best wilderness canoeing. Beginning in December, you
may participate in the challenging cold-weather camping program called
Okpik (OOk' pick). The
Northern Tier offers many adventures, each geared to the goals and desires of a
specific group.
Sea Base --
(August 04 - 11, 2007) The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base is owned and
operated by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America to offer unique
educational aquatic programs to boy scout members. Located in Islamorada, the
heart of the Florida Keys, the near shore reefs offer opportunities for
long term and short term programs year round.
Maine High Adventure --
(two crews -
July 07 - 15, and July 21 - 29,
2007)
Matagamon High Adventure Base is located at the northeast corner of Baxter
State Park on Grand
Lake Matagamon, about 27 miles from Patten. Your program
will possibly consist of a combination of wilderness exploration, canoeing,
backpacking, camping and just relaxing for fun. Your crew will consist of 9
scouts and two adults.
