The Boy Scouts of Great Falls Troop 55 would like to warmly extend an invitation to all WEBELO 2 Cub Scouts, or 5th and 6th grade boys to attend an outdoor open-house event on Saturday, December 12, 2015, from 10:00am – 2:00pm at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 9220 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls, Virginia.

Our Boy Scouts have planned a fantastic set of activities for the Webelos that are both fun and educational and many help scouts work towards their Arrow of Light requirements including attending a Boy Scout Troop meeting. In this event we will do the following:

  • Provide an introduction to the Boy Scout Program, the Patrol Method, and Troop 55 – for all adults and Webelos alike
    • Webelos will temporarily join a Patrol to participate in the Troop 55 Cooking Competition
    • Troop 55 youth will be present in troop activities
  • Fun games and activities like sports, rocket launching, and more
  • Training on lashings and knots – building “pioneering” structures
  • Training as needed on Webelos Arrow of Light Requirements including:
    • “Cast Iron Chef” Adventure – tinfoil dinners, camp stove, and dutch-oven cooking instruction and demonstrations
    • First Responder
    • Camper
    • Scouting Adventure
    • Fire Safety
  • Lunch for youth and their Parents – Dutch oven stew and more!

For those Webelos that cross-over in the spring of 2016, Troop 55 has an exciting springtime program for new scouts with activities in core scouting skills, a variety of weekend adventures including biking, rafting, and hiking at Spy Rock, plus preparation for Summer Camp and merit badge programs.   Our new scout program provides one-on-one mentoring from our older scouts to help each new scout advance at his own pace and schedule.

Webelos, 5th, and 6th grade boys and parents are encouraged to visit our website at www.bsa55.com to learn more about Troop 55, our activities, our accomplishments, and our fun!

Please RSVP with the name, Cub Scout Pack unit number, and contact details of the Webelos planning to attend this event to Raymond Merrill, raymond [dot] merrill [at] gmail [dot] com by the evening of December 8 to insure we have the proper resources for each scout to have a great experience.

Troop 55 also has an active Venture Crew. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 13 and have completed the eighth grade, or age 14 through 20 years of age. Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults and in Troop 55, they often will participate in the same monthly outings. If you have a son or daughter who is interested in this program, please feel free to attend this open house.

For those who are unable attend on the 12th, we would be pleased to arrange an individual meeting with interested Webelos and their parents at a future date.
