Scouting for food Historian Report

NCAC Scouting for Food November 2015

Stephen T. – Sharks Patrol

Scouting for Food is an annual food collection supported by Scouts from the National Capital Area Council.

This year Scouts from Troop 55 distributed plastic bags to homes in our designated neighborhood in Great Falls on November 7, 2015. Scouts returned to pick up the filled bags a week later on November 14. In addition we had a station set up at the local Great Falls Safeway to collect food for or selected local food bank.

UntitledWe had 20 Boy Scouts, 1 Girl Scout and ~ 13 Adults participate in both weekends. Unfortunately this year we did not collect as much food as we would have liked in the neighborhoods. We were able to collect additional non-perishable items in front of Safeway from 9-4:30 on November 14.

The local food bank that we supported this year, as in previous years, was SHARE,Inc. The food pantry provides supplemental groceries to clients who live in Share’s service area zip codes (22101, 22102, 22066, 22043). Clients can visit the food pantry twice per month.  Share depends on Food Drives to stock their pantry. This year we were able to provide them with an estimated 1,536 pounds of food and non-perishable goods.
