Volunteer Fairfax

BSA troop  55 scouts group at Great Falls VA  is nominated for the 2015 Fairfax County Volunteer Service Award for “Youth Volunteer” category. We are very honored to compete in this category with other honorable youth volunteer groups from Fairfax county, including CLIPUS Foundation, Wheels to Africa and Youth of Rock Spring Group. ScoutMaster Mr. Pan and Patrol Advisor Mr. Ye will attend the 23rd Annual Fairfax County Volunteer Award Ceremony and represent BSA Troop 55 at the event.

Established in 1993, the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards serve as a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. The Awards honor individuals, groups and organizations that have given outstanding volunteer service through a broad range of activities and programs. BSA troop 55, chartered by St. Francis Episcopal Church, participates in many community service activities throughout the year. In 2014, Troop 55 Scouts collected litter along Walker Road in Great Falls, organized and executed the inaugural First Time Camper’s Program at Wolf Trap National Park, assembled and staffed the very popular haunted house at the Great Falls Village Spooktacular, served as the Honor Guard at the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., served as the Color Guard for the Great Falls 9-11 Memorial Service, the Hunter Mill Civil War Dedication and the Great Falls Memorial Day Service. Scouts also assisted St. Francis Church with their annual Country Fair and supported their fellow scouts with multiple Eagle Scout projects. In addition, recipients accrued additional hours in service projects outside of Scouting by providing volunteer service for schools, churches, science fairs and regional community events.

In addition to the Nomination for Troop 55, senior Scout leader Wesley P. is also nominated for “Youth Volunteer” category for his leadership in troop community service, as well as his own volunteer service effort in 2013 and 2014. For his outstanding works and dedications, Wesley was also awarded with “President’s Volunteer Service Award” Gold Medals for both 2013  and 2014 award period years.

For their leaderships and great contributions to Troop 55, ScoutMaster Mr. Pan and Lead Assistant ScoutMaster Mr. Reuss are also nominated for 2015 Fairfax County Volunteer Award for individual “Adult Volunteer” categories. For their numerous hours contributed to Troop 55 and other community events, both of them were awarded with “President’s Volunteer Service Award” Gold Medals at Troop 55’s April Court of Honor on April 22nd, 2015.
